Snapchat was developed back in 2011 and later unveiled to
run on iOS before being introduced on Android in October 2012. Snapchat’s core
functionality was to create multimedia messages called snaps which allows one
to post 24 hour ephemeral photos and video slideshows which disappear after one
day.
Snapchat gained more popularity in 2014 and this later
magnified magnanimously in 2015 with even more people willing to take their lives
online. Notwithstanding, a few nerds
remained adamant to join this social platform for reasons best known to them,
humanity and discretion. Hitherto, there are people who still treat Snapchat
with unwarranted superstition and they don’t hide how much they loathe it,
despite the fact that they hide their last seen on Whatsapp.
These people, however, are comfortable using Instagram because
they definitely use Facebook and maybe Whatsapp which are affiliated. Just like iPhone users will love using a MacBook together with an i-Pad because the
Apple hub is just as acceptable as the Zuckerberg’s collection.
Will Facebook also acquire snapchat now that billions of users are embracing it?
Shying away from using Snapchat has been harmonized by the
introduction of Instagram stories unveiled on 2nd August 2016, 5 years after Snapchat was introduced, which brings about a “snapchatty” effect to
your Instagram experience. The Instagram stories have been subtly crafted to
ape and poach Snapchat’s kernel experience on a soft touch but to the satisfaction of
your ardent audience who will always keep themselves abreast with what you post.
If you’ve never used Snapchat before, here is a breakdown of what features it offers
parallel to Instagram stories
- The Stories format laces the last 24 hours of 10-second-max photos and videos you’ve shared into a slideshow and you can tap to fast-forward through the slides
- Everything you post disappears after 24 hours. (except for the new feature on Snapchat which allows uploading of slides to memories which can later be reposted since they are stored on Snapchat’s server.
- You shoot full-screen in the app or upload things from the last 24 hours of your camera roll (recently added to Snapchat with Memories)
- You adorn your photos with drawings, text, emojis and swipeable color filters
- You can save your individual Story slides before or after posting them
- Your followers voluntarily tap in to pull your Story and view it, instead of it being pushed into a single feed
- People can swipe up to reply to your Stories, which are delivered through Instagram Direct private messages
- You can see who’s viewed your Story
If you uninstalled Snapchat due to its demanding features on
android devices then Instagram stories might be the silver lining to host your
24 hour live-feed for your minions to see before it all expires.
Those who swore never to use Snapchat might feel a ball of
guilt roll down their gut now that Instagram stories will not let them be, neither does it let them remain true to themselves in their quest to
avoid indulging in the mumbo-jumbo of imperfect sharing. That is if they find instagram stories as awesome as it is amusing.
So which one do you prefer? Snapchat or Instagram stories...
